In October 2012, 16 finalists battled it out to become the winner of their category in The Distinction In Make-up Artistry Awards. Paddy McGurgan was Illamasqua’s Professional winner and won to work along side the Illamasqua Team and Spob, The Head Of Professional Development at the Sorapol fashion show. 11 months on from the competition I caught up with Paddy to see what he has been up to…
How did it feel to win the competition?
It was one of the highlights of my career, it came as a complete shock when I heard that I had won, I was at a conference and couldn’t even scream when I heard but I managed to celebrate later.
What have you been up to since the competition?
Since the competition I have opened my first store in Belfast Royal Avenue, I have won All Ireland Bridal Make Up Artist of the year for 2013 and am just about to open my second store.
What would be your advice for anyone entering the competition this year?
Let your imagination lead you, have fun and enjoy the experience and don’t let the nerves kick in too much during the live event.
Why did you apply for the competition?
I love a challenge and enjoy pushing my imagination beyond the normal limits and Illamasqua was the perfect platform to allow me to play with the face and product.
What did you enjoy most about the live competition?
Very little I was so nervous that day, I flew over from Belfast with the model very early that morning with no sleep the night before and was just working on complete adrenalin, looking back it was such a fantastic experience and I so enjoyed meeting everyone including the other contestants. I will always remember the experience.
Thank you Paddy ! If you would like to enter and have the chance of being in the live final (being held at the home of BAFTA 195 Piccadilly) click here to find out more information.
