SORAPOL fashion show – Sponsored by Illamasqua

Illamasqua has been lucky enough be a part of and sponsor the SORAPOL fashion shows each year. This year was no different and the Illamasqua team was there ready in force. The only difference was the way the Illamasqua make-up was used…

SORAPOLS S/S 13 collection collaborated with an amazing illustrator,Achraf Amiri. Achraf was given the brief to design masks for the models to wear on the runways looking like a mixture of past and present celebrities. Illamasqua invited Achraf into head office for 3 days to use Illamasqua make-up to bring the masks to life, in some cases literally!

I caught up with Achraf after the fashion show to see his thoughts on using Illamasqua make-up…

How was it using make-up to create the masks?

I enjoyed it, it was very powdery and dusty for my nose but the pigments are exactly the quality of colour I was looking for. Of course it took me a bit more time using make-up than with traditional materials but it is definitely something I  see myself experimenting with again in the future.

What was your favourite Illamasqua product that you used?

I love using the eyeshadows with Sealing Gel. It’s very convenient and similar to water-colour paint. My favourite shade is “Naked Rose” Powder Blusher.

Which is your favourite mask?

Marilyn Manson and Courtney Love were probably my favourite two – I love their inspired make-up that create such dramatic looks. Using very strong colours and the different nuances of reds on the lips of Marilyn Manson and the spread of pink on Courtney’s lips.

I was lucky enough to get to work backstage with the SORAPOL crew and got to see Achraf help prepare the models for the runway where I witnessed how everything was put together before the amazing shows took place.

Here are a few backstage images of the Illamasqua team at work:

Nilofer – one of our make-up artists from the Selfridges counter on Oxford street – was in charge of the male models make-up, who weren’t wearing masks.

Kat Sykes (The Illamasqua team team winner from The Distinction In Make-up Artistry Awards) from our Visual Merchandising department, came to give a helping hand with the masks and final touch ups.

Julia Townend a make-up tutor from West Thames University (one of the colleges that teach make-up and use Illamasqua products) offered her services as a professional body painter to turn models into their second persona.

Here are the final shots of the masks and what make-up was used…
