What was it that sparked your interest in makeup?

From a young age I was always interested in art, whether it was in school or programmes on TV. And then when I discovered YouTube I found all these amazing makeup tutorials that I became obsessed with right away. From then on I tried to find an ‘acceptable’ way for me to get started in this industry.

Halloween came around I went out and bought lots of face paints and one eye shadow palette in order to do Halloween makeups. I started practicing loads and loved every minute of it, but after a while I got a little bored and decided to play with my eye shadow palette, I then discovered my love for make-up artistry. I started buying loads of make-up and finally one day I got the courage to post a picture of my work on social media. People seemed to love it so I kept on posting!

Tell us about your makeup training with Paddy McGurgan, what did you learn and what was your favourite part of training?

My training with Paddy McGurgan was one of the most amazing and fun times of my life. Paddy as a trainer does not hold back on telling you his secrets, which is why I think you learn so much during your time there. He had small, yet significant little tricks that made such a difference to your make-up.

My favourite part of training was going to get our homeworks evaluated where Paddy would tell you your weaknesses and give you tips and tricks on how to improve them. I also loved the photo shoot we got to do at the end of our training where we had to do a more natural look and a more creative/editorial look in which we got to go crazy (right up my alley).

PUSH CREATIVITY AND BOUNDARIES WITH OUR #MYFEARLESSSTATEMENT CAMPAIGN. WHATEVER YOU’RE PASSIONATE ABOUT, FROM CLIMATE CHANGE TO ANIMALS RIGHTS WE WANT TO HEAR ABOUT IT.
Aaron’s #myfearlessstatement is: never try hide or be afraid to be YOU! Never let anyone change who you are or what you do and if it bothers them, well, thats their problem!
What are you most proud of? What has been your most significant achievement to date?

Apart from this, my biggest achievement and the one I’m most proud of, is being offered a place on Paddy’s team of amazing artists. It’s such a compliment to me because of the amount of knowledge Paddy has on make-up and the amazing artists I get to work with.

What is your favourite Illamasqua product and why?

My top two products (sorry, I couldn’t just pick one!) are the Skin Base foundation because of how well it works on most skin types and how buildable the coverage is. My other favourite product has to be the amazing Brow Pomades. They’re so easy to work with, they have such great shades, and they are able to help create amazing brows.

Do you see yourself having a career in the beauty and cosmetics industry in the future?

Yes, it has been my goal ever since I got into makeup to have a career in the industry and a successful one at that. I look forward to what lies ahead for the beauty and cosmetics industry.

If you could be any fictional character, who would it be and why?

If I had the chance to be any fictional character it would have to be Alice from Alice In Wonderland because she had such a crazy and unique life and had such positive attitude towards it. I also loved how different she was to everyone else in her society, yet she didn’t let anyone change that. And who wouldn’t love to visit Wonderland and to have slain the Jabberwocky.

What beauty product could you not live without?

If I had to only have one beauty product it would most likely be an eye shadow palette. The main reason being that you are able to do so much with an eye shadow palette, for example if you have a wide range of colours you are able to do brows with it, contour, blush, highlight, eye shadow and just generally be creative with it.
