From wearing her ex-husband’s blood in a vial around her neck to becoming the Special Envoy for Refugees for the UN; Angelina Jolie is nothing short of a maverick.
“I’ve been reckless, but I’m not a rebel without a cause.”
Since delving into the world of acting, after an ongoing battle with depression and self-harm, the elegant yet powerful Angelina successfully turned her life around. Her filmography follows her evolution of style, from the rebellious, grungey Lisa in Girl, interrupted in 1999, all the way through to Disney’s anti-hero Maleficent in 2014 and beyond.
She has gracefully claimed the title of the most paid actress in Hollywood and has quickly become one of the most respected humanitarians in the world.
Going onto appear in box office phenomenon’s such as Salt and Wanted, Angelina has worked alongside some of the most admired actors in the industry. As well as recently dipping her feet into the world of directing, casting herself and husband, Brad Pitt, as the main protagonists in the romantic drama, By the Sea and working on the revered Unbroken and In the Land of Blood and Honey.
“I want to take time to understand life. I want to travel. I want to be a better person, a better Mom. I want to do something good with my life.”
Intertwined with her colourful acting career, her humanitarian work has played a large part in her life with regular involvement within the UNHCR. Specializing in mass population displacements, Jolie’s expanded role oozes selflessness, compassion and strength, three qualities that are mirrored in her personal life.
She adopted her first son, Maddox, in 2002 and is now mother of six children, three of which are adopted. After discovering she had an 87 percent chance of developing breast cancer, she courageously underwent preventative surgery having both breasts, ovaries and fallopian tubes removed.
