Illamasqua’s Distinction In Make-up Artistry Awards Foundation Winner 2011 – Kat Vogart

In October 2011 Illamasqua held The Distinction In Make-up Artistry Awards, where 12 finalists battled it out to become the winner. Kat Vogart was Illamasqua’s winner in the 2nd year Foundation category. We caught up with Kat at The Solent Southampton Free Range graduate show in Shoreditch, were she created and directed the make-up for the fashion show on the night.

I walk into the Free range event (held in a warehouse in Shoreditch) to be greeted by the hussel and bussel of back stage: models, clothes, hairspray and of course the make-up.

I spot Kat organising her team of 20 make-up artists all from Southampton Solent University. She had split her team in to 3 categories giving them all a different face chart she created to refer to. Alison Meek (runner up in the awards) designed the front of house look (face chart below).

Once Kat had finished, were caught up with her to see what she had been up to since the competition……..

Why did you apply for the competition?

Entering the competition was actually a part of my University Illamasqua project,  but I applied mainly because I absolutely adore Illamasqua’s style and identity which encourages you to truly develop your own style, even though mine is quite dark…
What did you enjoy most about the live competition?
I think it is a really good experience, I faced the jitters and really enjoyed it, mainly because atmosphere there was great, judging panel very friendly and it is a priceless occasion to present your work to Alex Box 🙂
How did it feel to win?
Absolutely amazing!!! Winning really encouraged and motivated me, convinced me that what I am doing is right.
What have you been up to since the competition?
It has been a very busy year for me, I was working on an important to me project (my Final Major project) creating characters to my beloved fantasy novel ‘The Witcher’. I have been announced a runner-up for the IMATS Student Beauty Competition in London and now I am preparing for IMATS in Los Angeles as I am one of 8 finalists! So wish me luck, I am going to LA!!!
What would be your advice for anyone entering the competition this year?

This competition is very individual as the brief is more of a guideline so trust your instincts and develop your own unique style.

Illamasqua would like to wish Kat Good Luck in IMATS LA and a well done to the team who worked with Kat at the Southampton Solent graduate show. Here are a few more pictures from the evening………
