Illamasqua Interviews – Rebecca Jade Wilson

Nail Artist Rebecca Wilson has worked for the likes of Vogue, Elle and i-D and most recently Illamasqua! Since November 2011 we’ve teamed up with Rebecca for the striking nail art you’ve seen on our SS12 campaign images and many innovative nail tutorials, Sponge Nails and Galaxy Nails (tutorials below) to name a few. As both the brains and the talons behind the nails of our most recent campaigns, we caught up with Rebecca to bring you an insight into her creative process, her top Illamasqua shades and much, much more…

Rita Ora – Nails by Rebecca Wilson

What are you up to at the moment and what are your future plans?

At the moment I am sat on the most amazing set painting beautiful womens nails for an advertising job… watch this space! Future plans for me are to be doing more of what I am doing now, and to be working with Illamasqua lots!!

What’s the most iconic image to you?

One of my fave images is below – a 1960’s advert. The nails look like they could be from a 2012 shoot.

What is your favourite piece from the Illamasqua collection and why?

The Illamsqua collection is amazing in it’s entirity and I love the Neutral and Fundamental Palettes but if i had to pick one piece, it would be the new Nail Varnish in Nomad. Such a refreshing take on the classic ‘mint green’ and a perfect shade for spring/summer!

What has been your most significant achievement to date?

To date I think one of my proudest achievements is creating the nails for the recent Human Fundamentalism campaign – creating pieces that Alex Box loved, made me extremely happy! The images are fantastic and working alongside some true creatives was particularly inspiring.

If you could be any fictional character, who would it be and why?

If I could be any fictional character it would have to be Professor Robert Langdon from the Dan Brown books! Running round beautiful cities, uncovering mysteries, chasing down the bad guys… what’s not to love!

What does the perfect manicure represent to you?

I have lots of women in my family so make-up, hair and nails were always hot topics!  I loved seeing the variation of well groomed women in my family having long red glamourous nails and then some of my cousins sporting more adventurous colours and styles – it is such a great way to accessorise yourself. Everybody feels better after a manicure!

A big thank you to Rebecca for the fabulous interview
