Illamasqua Interviews… LemonadeJar

To celebrate the return of Deity we partnered with the lovely Jojo Pearson, a.k.a LemonadeJar, and here the Fashion and Beauty Blogger talks to the Illamafia about beauty advice and must-have products.

Question: When did you first discover Illamasqua?
Answer:

I had seen it around on Instagram loads before but the first time I got to use the products in person was last August for a collaboration with HQ Hair and Illamasqua. I was one of the models and the look was for Halloween. After that, I got to take some of the products home and I’ve loved Illamasqua ever since!

Question: Which are your favourite product/s & why?
Answer:

My favourite products are the Pure Pigment in Axolotl, the skin bases and the Sketch Stick in Haze. I used these last year for my Halloween looks. Now that I’ve tried Deity I think it takes first place!

Question: Where did your Instagram name @LemonadeJar come from?
Answer:

It came from when everyone was obsessed with Tumblr. I made a Tumblr account with the name “lemonadeinajar”. It was completely random and just because I was going through a crazy lemonade drinking phase at the time. When I made an Instagram I thought it was a bit too long of a username so shortened it just a tad.

Question: Which influencers do you religiously follow?
Answer:

I’ve been obsessed with a girl called Jazelle (@uglyworldwide) for like a year now. I’ve always had this temptation to shave my head so I’m kind of living my shaved head life through her.

Question: Where do you find inspiration for the looks you create?
Answer:

Everywhere! I’m constantly finding inspiration online, in magazines, movies, when I’m out and about and from my imagination! If I find a look has already been done I’ll put my own spin on it.

Question: When you create a look, do you plan beforehand or freestyle?
Answer:

There’s the odd time that I’ll freestyle a look but 90% of the time I’m a planner. I’ll research how to do different techniques and sometimes draw my idea out. If I get an idea and I can’t do it straight away I’ll write it down on my “MU Looks To Do” list.

Question: What is the best & the worst beauty advice you have ever received?
Answer:

The best beauty advice I got was from my mom and can be applied to beauty and clothing really – “If you feel comfortable in it, wear it”. She told me this when I was at secondary school and it was a non-uniform day. It basically just means that you shouldn’t care what other people think, as long as you stay true to yourself and wear what you like.

The worst beauty advice was “Jo, do NOT bleach your eyebrows!”. If I hadn’t started doing that I wouldn’t be known for this look. I never liked my eyebrows so getting rid of them was the easy way out. Out of sight, out of mind.

Question: If you could only use one make-up item for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Answer:

Lipstick. I find that if I wear no make up apart from lipstick it’s kind of a statement. Whereas if I were to wear eye make up without my lips on it would just look incomplete.

Question: What’s your all-time favourite look you have created?
Answer:

This is THE most difficult question on the planet. I go through phases where I love a photo and then eventually find something wrong with it and move on to the next one. I think my favourite at the moment is the time I covered half my face in gold eyeshadow.

Question: How do you take the perfect photo for Instagram?
Answer:

I take around 300, then endlessly scroll through them until I find one that is acceptable. I’m a bit of a perfectionist so my photos will never be absolutely perfect in my opinion.

Question: What are your top tips for keeping your make-up flawless throughout the day?
Answer:

Make sure your face is well moisturised before applying make up and then use a setting spray. I think you also need to be prepared to reapply at some points too.

Question: If you could talk to everyone in the world for 5 minutes, what would you say?
Answer:

Respect yourself, respect other people, respect animals, respect the Earth

Question: If you could choose to have a superpower for the day, which power would you choose?
Answer:

I think I’d be a shapeshifter. It would be cool to turn into an animal or someone famous and live their life for a day. I’d probably turn into a Disney princess actually.

Question: What’s next for you, what are your big plans for the next year?
Answer:

I lost a lot of confidence in myself and blogging not so long ago for personal reasons. I felt it difficult to express who I really was at the time. I’m finally coming out of that and getting back my MoJo (excuse the pun). This next year is about finding my feet again and showing people who I really am and what I can create!
