Beauty Spotlight: Featuring Sophie McNair

Today in the beauty spotlight is the talented make-up artist Sophie McNair, who you may also know as Shlemonade on Instagram. We always love the looks Sophie creates which very often feature Illamasqua products in these looks. Therefore we wanted to find out what Illamasqua products Sophie loves the most, and given the chance, what products she would add to the ever growing Illamasqua collection! If you want to find out as much as us, keep reading…

Winged Liner with a difference using Precision Gel Liner and Eye Shadow in Sex.
1. What’s your number 1 Illamasqua product and why?

My number 1 product would have to be the Precision Gel Liner. It lasts all day, the colour is intense and it glides on like butter! I love to use it to create graphic liner and creative designs!  Desert island product! I guard this baby with my life.

2. How do you get inspiration for your looks?

I take inspiration from TV, Film, Theatre and the world around me. I constantly feel inspired by other artists in the make-up industry and I tend to get my daily dose of inspiration from their posts on Instagram!  Sometimes I have a look through Instagram before I go to sleep and before you know it I’m back up and the make-up kit is out!

3. Make-up aside, what do you do to take care of your hair, skin and body?

It’s really important to look after your skin, hair and body. I see it the same way a painter sees their canvas.  I cleanse, tone and moisturise using Simple’s range of products, as they tend not to irritate the skin. I use the Clarasonic Mia 2 to remove my make-up and cleanse my pores.  I dye my hair blonde, which is really damaging, so I like to use pure coconut oil as a hair mask and a body lotion several times a week to condition my hair and keep my skin soft.

4. If you could pick 5 Illamasqua products to use over and over again what would they be?

I think I’d be devastated if I was limited to 5 Illamasqua products!  If I had to choose, they would be.

Precision Gel Liner

Skin Base Foundation

Powder Blusher in Hussy

Sealing Gel

Powder Eye Shadow in Sex (or Obsidian – so hard to choose!)

How amazing is this bright eye look Sophie created using Powder Eye Shadow in Sex, Apex and Obsidian as well as Precision Gel Liner?!

5. As you know Illamasqua products are known to have multiple uses, what is your favourite Illamasqua product to use for more than one part of your make-up?

I would have to choose the Sealing Gel as it is insanely versatile!  It seals whatever you decide to use it with and the make-up stays in place like a dream!  I use it create my own brightly coloured eye liners from eye shadow.  I love to use it when filling in my brows as they don’t budge or smudge during the day! I also use Sealing Gel mixed with products when I do any eye or lip art!

6. If you could create a new Illamasqua product what would it be and why? Don’t forget to name it!

If I were to create a brand new product it would definitely be some pots of Glitter.  I’ve been on the look out for some lovely cosmetic glitters for my kit for a while now. I love glitter cut creases and smoky eyes! To be specific, I’d create an iridescent teal/blue/green glitter and I’d call it Mermaid!

Apocalips, Stealth, Inception, PGL
