On this week’s Beauty Spotlight we are joined by the gorgeous Milly from Pearls and Poodles. She is giving us the rundown on beauty products she loves at the moment and some secret tips on how she gets her skin looking so lovely and glowing! So without further ado I will hand over Milly to share her thoughts…
1.What make-up products have you been loving recently and why?
There have been two main staples in my makeup bag which I have been reaching for consistently throughout the Summer. Cream blushers are one and lip balms are the other, namely Maybelline’s Baby Lips. I know, I know – I fell for the hype but they are great for a burst of hydration along with a tint of colour. As for the cream blushers, I just love the ease and freshness of these products, giving your cheeks a gorgeous radiant colour and they work perfectly with the slightly dewier base I’ve been wearing lately.
2.What’s your number 1 Illamasqua product and why?
Oh this is a tricky one but judging by the grubby fingerprints and concaving product, it would have to be Illamasqua’s Gleam cream highlighter in Aurora. It is an iridescent champagne-toned highlighter that can be applied simply anywhere to give instant warmth and radiance to your face or body. It is so versatile with a soft, buttery consistency but a strong shimmer-sheen finish – it is my go-to product when I want to enliven the eyes or give my cheeks a lit-from-within glow.
3.What part of your make up do you enjoy applying the most and why?
This would definitely be my base. I love the whole process of preparing your skin with your primer, selecting your choice of base product – will it be a liquid or cream foundation, the tinted moisturiser or BB cream, and picking out your tool of choice – the buffing brush or foundation sponge. It is a process you can breeze through in 3 minutes or lovingly attend to for half an hour!
4.Make-up aside, what do you do to take care of hair, skin and body?
I am a great believer that the simplest things that nature provides can do wonders for your skin and soul. When I am not working, blogging or wedding planning then you will probably find me running. Running in the gym, running on a hockey pitch, running in the park…but always running! Exercise is a big part of my life and happiness and the key contributor to my well-behaved skin and positive body image, along with lots of lovely water and a vegetarian diet. As for the mane, I have recently embarked on a no-heat-challenge for my hair (8 weeks and counting) and have been slathering on Lee Stafford’s hair masks at night and embracing the curls. My hair is definitely thanking me for it!
5.If you could create a new Illamasqua product what would it be and why?
I would create a pink lip gloss, but not just your average, run of the mill lip gloss, but a unique, shimmering lip gloss in a rich pink-copper hue studded with iridescent flecks that transform and ignite the lips with colour. I love the idea of creating a product that you can wear alone or layer over your favourite lipstick to give your lips a whole new look and finish.
6.Your skin always looks beautifully dewy and glowing, what are the top 3 products to achieve this look?
Oh thank you! I wish I could say it was all natural but there are definitely some fake-it products I use to help me along the way. If I want an all-over dewy finish to my base then I love to mix a blob of Laura Mercier’s Illuminating Tinted Moisturiser in with my foundation to convert any base product into a luxurious radiant liquid that makes your skin glow. If I want to just capture the light on my skin in specific places then I opt for a powder or liquid highlighter. MAC’s Soft & Gentle mineralise skinfinish is a gorgeous, golden-laced powder that highlights the cheeks like a dream and Illamasqua’s Gleam cream highlighter in Aurora is simply perfect for the aforementioned reasons!
7.We know you love lipstick! With summer coming to an end and autumn on the way, what are your favourite lipstick shades to wear during the autumn season?
Yes that is true, my love for lipsticks will never fade! As the nights get chillier and we shroud ourselves with scarves and mittens, I like to swap my baby pink and peachy lip shades with something a little earthier and richer, a deeper stain rather than a light summery gloss. My obvious choice for a glam, evening time look is a blackened plum or violet shade such as Illamasqua’s latest release – Shard lipstick. For the day I would still find myself drawn to the pinks and the corals but opt for something slightly more substantial such as MAC’s Chatterbox or YSL new shade in No.51 Corail Urbain.
Until next time, Samantha x
