Welcome to Beauty Spotlight – a new Illamasqua feature to highlight some of the most innovative beauty bloggers.
For our very first edition, we’re talking to Caroline Burke of Burkatron. An artist by trade and a blogger by nature, we love her so much that she’s even been involved in our Spring ’13 collection (more about that next week).
Tell us a bit about your blog, Burkatron.
My blog is a mix of my favourite things; nail art tutorials, beauty products I love and fashion posts. I also love making things so there’s quite a few DIY projects on there too from handmade jewellery to making your own custom nail polishes. I find it hard to talk about just one thing!
Which part of beauty is your favourite?
Ooh it’s so hard to choose. I’d probably say nails but my skincare regime has become more important to me as I’ve gotten older. I also get really excited when I discover a new lipstick or blusher; I love playing with new colours.
Which Illamasqua product is your favourite and why?
I love the formula of your nail polishes – they’re a breeze to apply and long lasting but my favourite item at the moment is your Precision Ink. I love a statement, retro eye-flick for instant glamour!
How do you think your background in artistry affects your beauty regime, if at all?
In a way your face is just another type of canvas; you have to find the best shades and formulas to suit you. Finding the right products for your skin type and colouring is the difference between a masterpiece or a disaster (believe me, I’ve had a few slip ups over the years, ha ha).
Who are your favourite make-up artists?
I don’t really have any. I tend to follow nail artists! For me my inspiration comes from people like Sharmadean Reid (WAH nails founder) and Madeline Poole. I love their use or colour and cutting edge designs.
Where do you seek inspiration for the nail art designs that you create?
Mostly from fashion; it can be from a beauty trend for a certain colour or from a pattern I like on a dress. The catwalks are great inspiration, this year I’ve found inspiration in anything from Christmas fair isle jumpers, tartan check prints or cartoons I’ve watched with my niece! If I like a pattern I’ll try and recreate it, it’s all part of the fun.
If you could create a new Illamasqua product, what would it be and why?
I think you have everything covered, but I’d love to see some Illamasqua nail art pens… pretty please!
What is your favourite beauty tip?
I like multi-purpose products. I always carry a tin of Vaseline. I use it on my lips, eyebrows and I put a little between my hands and dab onto my cheekbones for a simple, dewy finish! I also think it’s important to wash your make up brushes regularly, change your skincare routine with the seasons and drink lots of water. (I sound like my mum now!)
Well I think she’d be a pretty cool mum! For nail art masterpieces and pop art aplenty, make sure you’ve bookmarked Burkatron.
Make sure you come back every other Tuesday to see who is taking the Beauty Spotlight.
